Derek Ho is the man behind the lens of Urban Light: a company that crafts wonderful, emotive wedding cinematography and he asked me to create a website for him. I have to say Urban Light was a favourite project of mine to work on.

I wasn’t able to make it to Melbourne for the awards ceremony on the 6th of October but I was delighted to hear that the Love Freo website was a national winner in the “Best Overall Accessibility” category and a finalist in the “Personal” category.

In its simplest form Love Freo is a long love letter to the City of Fremantle that has been written over the past three years in the form of a blog. It’s a side project of mine and another two local creatives that live and work in Fremantle.

Spaced: Art Out of Place is a new international biennial event, an initiative of IASKA and presented with Fremantle Arts Centre as part of the 2012 Perth Festival. It featured 16 projects by 21 Australian and overseas artists and I was invited to take part of The Abandoned Trolley Project.

Love Freo has always been about telling the Fremantle story to anyone that’s interested to hear it. The Love Freo blog was doing really well so it was the right time to publish a book.

Big week this week for the book. The printers proofs arrived and I’ve poured over them looking looking looking for typos and mistakes. We’ve had the entire book proofread by a professional editor so was our final chance to pick up anything that was graphically amiss.

Phil, who is one third of our Love Freo team, managed to get us in the paper. I’ve been working every evening and all my weekends this October on the book so it’s good to have some interest generated. At this point it’s going to be somewhere between a coffee table book and a guide book.

It rocks when you do something that you’re really proud of and then it gets recognised by your peers. I was a finalist in the 2011 Australian Web Design Awards.

I took a gap-year of sorts when I finished studying Industrial Design before continuing on to do an MSc in Computing and Design. Model-making was a skill that I picked up from my degree and I subsequently spend a year in a workshop at the foot of the Dublin Mountains.

Today I made a badge. Now I’d like to talk a little about my inspiration for my badge… lasers, because lasers are cool especially when they’re coming out of a space-lion’s eyes. Triangles need a mention as well triangles are definitely my favourite shape.

Yellow filing cabinets are difficult to find so I made my own. Off I went to The Butcher Shop, purveyors of fine spray paints, and grabbed myself five cans of pineapple yellow Ironlak.

Castlebrook have been designing luxury hotel and apartment interiors since 1982 with projects across Europe the Middle East and Africa. It was exciting to work with such a well established international company.

The Greens vision for the future is based on four interconnecting pillars of social justice, ecological sustainability, peace and nonviolence, and participatory democracy. They wanted to highlight some of their less well know policies and show that they were much more that a single issue party. I designed a series of posters for the federal election of August 2010.
